I have just finished up my 9 year stint as a legal assistant/secretary. Working in law is a high stress, high pressure job. Like most office jobs it requires you being glued to your desk and can leave you exhausted at the end of your day, leaving little room or energy to workout. I got to a point where I realized I no longer had job satisfaction, I wanted to see results of the work I did and needed to be around people who were more positive and happy on a day-to-day basis. Hence the reason for a career change...
Having lived in Vancouver, Canada, for the last 2 years I made the decision to move back to Australia and start my life working in the sport and fitness industry as a Personal Trainer. Something I have always had passion for!
I look back now and wonder why I stayed in law for as long as I did. Getting into Crossfit gave me the motivation and insight I needed to make that change. I picked the brains and asked hundreds of questions of motivated trainers, friends and strangers in the industry of why they love doing what they do, what the pros and cons are with the job and any tips of the trade for a new trainer. I watched in disbelief as unmotivated trainers in other gyms sat in chairs, looked out windows, swirled their coffee, whilst their client pounded the treadmill for half an hour (equally as bored), making mental notes not to ever be like that.
So, when the opportunity arose in Vancouver to attend the Level 1 Crossfit Certification Course to become a trainer I jumped on it. What better way to get into training then through Crossfit. I now look forward to training in a gym in Australia after my travels. I am also enrolled into the Australian Institute of Fitness course to be fully qualified as a Personal Trainer to embark upon my new career. Bring it on!
I will be able to train and help motivate others who work the long hard office jobs like I used to do. I know their mental state and can relate...hopefully make a difference in their lives!
